Principal’s Message huilong Chen
Students come to the Chinese school should learn the language not only from the text book and the weekly classroom lecture. To be sophisticated in Chinese, the learning process should involve lots of exercise and conversation outside the classroom. This is especially true for the CSL students. In San Jose Chinese School, the teaching activities have been stretched far beyond the weekly classroom lectures. To provide an immerging language environment, San Joes Chinese School and Association of Northern California Chinese Schools (ANCCS) host academic contest every year .Hundreds of students have participated to show their enthusiasm in learning Chinese, and our students made great achievements in last year’s ANCCS academic contest. Enrollment for this year's academic contest has started, and every student is encouraged to participate. To serve our students better, we will provide extra classes for students who need special helps in homework. Schedule and arrangement in detail will be emailed to the parents.
In October, many teachers and administrative staffs attended the digital teaching training program held by ANCCS. Teachers are excited about applying modern digital networks to the teaching experience, and believe that usage of digital applications will improve young students' interest in learning Chinese and learning efficiency. Parents are encouraged to guide students to take advantage of these resources. This year, we have two teachers received the 2011 Overseas Chinese Outstanding Teacher Awards. They are Teacher Caroline Kuo and Teacher Dengmei Chao. Congratulations! I would also like to take this opportunity to express my deep gratitude and respect for all the teachers' hard work and dedication. As of the administration part, the IT department is planning to improve the school's website so that we could provide a better communication platform for parents and teachers. Please visit our website www.sanjosechineseschool.org for the latest updates. Constructive suggestions and advices are more than welcomed.
This year, we continue to face many challenges in the financial standing and administrative functions. This school year's budget deficit will be $ 10700, because of the increasing classroom rent, reduced interest income for the school fund, decreased in the number of students and other reasons. In order to maintain the excellent teaching quality as well as to reduce or balance this deficit, a special task team was formed to help alleviate the school's financial problems. At the same time, more advertisements might be necessary so that the school enrollment rate might improve. Another major challenge is the construction of the school management team. There are many vacancies to be filled every year. As a non-profit organization, the daily management of San Jose Chinese School depends on parents and teachers who share the same passion for Chinese education. The school couldn't have gone so far and achieved so much without the parents' support and help. To ensure a bright future for the school and for our kids, I encourage you to participate actively in the school’s activities and administration work.
Finally, I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving!
